The Orlandi firm was funded in 1859 by Angelo Orlandi in Crespellano, a little village of the Bolognese province: he began his activity with the constructions of wagons, carriages, etc. In 1881 the firm was transferred in Modena, not far from the old seat: in Modena, profiting by the growth and the typical zeal of the city, Orlandi succeeded in enlarging his activity up to the creation of a branch-seat in Rome. In 1899 in Orlandi factory the first bus with petrol feeding was produced and starting on that moment, the production was specialized in construction of buses, cars and special vehicles. Thanks to the ability and skill of Renzo Orlandi, who assumed the reins of the firm during the Twenties, the Orlandi name began to be famous and appreciated in all Italy. After the Second World War the activity was mainly directed on tourist buses and, under the management of Renzo Orlandi and after of his son Angelo, the firm could reach important successes in Italy and abroad, thanks to the originality of the line, to the comfort and to innovation of the proposed solutions. During the years '50 and '60 Orlandi continued to make a name for itself and soon its name became a synonym of elegance and innovation: in that period Orlandi produced the first bus in Italy equipped with air-conditioning system and, a little after, the first vehicle with large and panoramic windows. In 1964 the firm was transferred in its present seat, which allowed a further development of the activity: in those years Orlandi produced the first vehicles with sloping posts, a little stylistic revolution, which culminated in 1970 in the construction of the Meteor body. This body completely changed the stylistic rules in fashion in that period and was forerunner of a line that was copied by all the constructors and that will remain in fashion up to our days. In 1973 the stock-holding majority passed to FIAT (and in 1976 to IVECO) and under the management of the Torinese firm the production increased, above all the production of tourist vehicles and the plant was modernized. The crowing-piece of this activity was the acquisition of the whole shareholding in 1988. In these years some vehicles, produced in hundreds of models, have further on enlarged the success of the mark Orlandi: the bodies Spazio, Poker, Domino are among the most significant ones. On some of these models, after requirement of teams of "Formula Uno" (Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, Minardi, Motosport, Lamborghini, Foca, etc.) or of several football teams (Juventus, Milan, Napoli, Torino, Bologna, Bari, etc.) the specialized personnel of Orlandi has further on enlarged its own experience carrying out the very particular solutions that were required by these specific clients. In order to adapt itself to the evolution of the requirements of the clients, who need a always more complete service, Orlandi can now rely, beside its construction activity, on a Centre of second-hand vehicles, which can offer a very wide choice, the possibility of renewal and personalization of the bought vehicles and a highly specialized and supplied centre for service - technical assistance and for spare parts.
