Designline Limited has been established for more than 50 years. It is stationed at Ashburton, New Zealand. It is one of the biggest bodybuilder in New Zealand specialised in production and maintenance of luxurious coaches. In recent years, the company also focused on the construction of low floor buses, trolleybuses and electric hybrid buses. Many of New Zealand's bus operators use Designline vehicles, but the company also exports buses to Australia, Asia, and Europe. Designline has now passed out of local Ashburton ownership, and is intending an expansion of operations; with production intended to triple in the near future to 15 buses a week. Designline is the biggest producer of urban buses in New Zealand. With making conventional (buses with steps at the doors) buses at first till about 1996 when Designline started producing Super Low Floor Buses. Features of Super Low Floor Buses include no steps which means easy access & these buses have space for a wheelchair & baby prams. Most Designline urban buses are built with MAN components, chassis etc but there are also other other's which include Scanias, Volvo or just Designline citibus. The common models built at the moment are the MAN 12.223 & the MAN 17.223. Stagecoach New Zealand would have the largest amount of Designline urban buses. There is very little competition to these buses from other manufacturers. Designline has developed and manufactured electric hybrid buses. Four of these electric hybrid buses operate a free service in the city of Christchurch and three of these buses operate a Free Shuttle in the City of Auckland. A number of these buses have been exported. Designline manufactures coaches for everyday use & tour coaches. (kilde: Wikipedia)
