S.A. Heuliez Bus - has always been in the very forefront of innovation, relying on a successful past and long-standing know-how.
At the dawn of the 19th century, is found the first cartwright in the Heuliez family. A century later, his grandson, Adolphe, developed the Cerizay cartwright workshop in Poitou.
1922 : His son Louis contributed his specialty in the former blacksmith shop: the manufacturing of light cart, which was later to provide the group with its emblem : the Carriage. 1923 : Louis Heuliez succeeded his father Adolphe, and developed a new rubberizing process for wheels, which was to be extremely successful.
1925 : An initial body was built on a Peugeot 177 B chassis. 1932 : The first HEULIEZ car with a wooden frame was constructed.
1949 : Heuliez exhibited for the first time in the Paris Automobile Trade Fair with a long-distance touring coach of the Citroën P 45 type. 1948 to 1952 : Expansion was to be marked by the manufacturing of tourist coaches and large advertising vehicles, the "Advertising on Wheels" which were to travel throughout France with the Tour de France: the CINZANO, SOFIL, DIDOT-BOTTIN, NOUVELLE REPUBLIQUE, CREDIT DE L'OUEST . 1967 : HEULIEZ was awarded the President of the Republic prize in NICE with the GT 1000 SAVIEM Several independent divisions were created, including the coach and city bus divisions. The 1970 's were marked by a successful cooperation with MERCEDES BENZ which resulted in production of more than 600 standard "0 305" city bus and nearly 600 articulated "0 305 G" buses. 1980 : Birth of the HEULIEZ BUS company on the Rorthais site. 1982 : A cooperation agreement was signed with RENAULT V.I . 1983 to 1996 : More than 2000 GX 107 standard city buses were produced on RENAULT PR-100 chassis.
1991 : Subsequent to the RENAULT/VOLVO merger project, the HEULIEZ BUS company was taken over by two new partners : RENAULT V.I. and VOLVO BUS CORPORATION . 1998 : In January RENAULT V.I bought the 75 %VOLVO BUS CORPORATION shares and thus became the main shareholder. 1999 : HEULIEZ BUS became a subsidiary of IRISBUS , made of the bus and coach activities of RENAULT V.I. and IVECO . 2002 : IVECO bought the RENAULT V.I. shares and thus became the only shareholder.
HEULIEZ BUS has also achieved fame through the supply of specific 'Police anti riot' vehicles (CRS - Gendarmerie).
Cette société fabrique la gamme d'autobus à plancher surbaissé ACCESS'BUS (GX 117, GX 117 L, GX 217, GX 317 et GX 417) et fabriquait le O 305, le GX 107, le GX 187... C'est en 1932 qu'est né le premier bus Heuliez.
La société Heuliez Bus est le 2ème constructeur français de bus urbains (10 219 véhicules produits de 1976 à 1998, sur la base de châssis de différentes marques, principalement Renault).
